Fitted wardrobes, alcove units and media walls
Alcove cabinetry is the highest-ROI joinery upgrade most Tunbridge Wells homeowners make, full-height storage where there was none, painted to match the wall colour so the room feels larger, not busier. We build carcasses from 18mm furniture-grade MDF, face frames in tulipwood (paint-grade) or oak (stain-grade), with shaker or slab doors as specified. Media walls integrate cable management, recessed TV mounts, and floating shelves with concealed brackets, no trailing wires, no exposed fixings.
Internal doors, frames and architraves
Hanging doors is the trade most often rushed. We chisel hinge rebates by hand on hardwood doors, ease and plane stiles and rails so the door swings without binding, fit ironmongery (mortice locks, latches, handles) to manufacturer spec, and adjust strike plates so the door catches firmly on first close. Architraves and skirtings are mitred tight, glued and pinned, not just relying on caulk to hide a sloppy cut.
Staircases, balustrades and Part K compliance
We install and repair traditional cut-string and closed-string staircases, oak and glass balustrade systems, and modern open-tread designs. All new staircases meet Part K of the Building Regulations: maximum 220mm rise, minimum 220mm going, handrail between 900–1000mm above pitch line, balusters spaced so a 100mm sphere can't pass through. Existing staircases are re-glued, re-wedged and re-blocked from underneath to silence creaks for good.
Kitchen carcasses, worktops and second-fix
Whether you're fitting a pre-bought kitchen (Howdens, DIY Kitchens, Wickes) or a fully bespoke design, the install is what makes or breaks it. We level every carcass to within 1mm, scribe end panels to walls and floors, machine-mason solid worktops with proper joints (butt-and-scribe, biscuit-jointed, sealed with colour-matched adhesive), and fit cornices, pelmets and plinths to a paint-grade standard.
External joinery, decking, fascias, pergolas
Kent weather is brutal on external timber. We use pressure-treated softwood for substructure, hardwood (iroko, oak) or composite for visible decking, and stainless or coated fixings throughout, no rust streaks. Fascias and soffits are cut from cellular PVC or pre-primed timber, fixed to a continuous batten with stainless ring-shanks, and capped properly at corners so water doesn't track behind them.
